So I am on holiday this week, up north, and one of the things I did was visit Shibden Hall. It's a historical house-museum. It was inhabited for about years, and became a museum in after the death of John Lister. It has a fascinating history over that period, which I will not. Grade II* listed Shibden Hall was owned by the Lister family for over years. A major period of alteration to the building came in the s under the direction of Anne. The success of the new BBC drama Gentleman Jack has had an immediate impact on tourism with visitors jetting in from the United States.. After John Lister’s death in his library, papers and unsorted archive at Shibden Hall became the property of the Halifax council. They sent a librarian to the Hall. Anne Lister was a Yorkshire landowner, diarist, mountaineer and traveller. Throughout her life she kept diaries which chronicled the details of her everyday life, including her lesbian relationships, her financial concerns, her industrial activities and her work improving Shibden Hall, Halifax, in.
